Further support for Ava

Further support for Ava

Ava Luce, the young rider from Forres Cycling Club, who was a Stars Award winner in 2022, has been awarded further support, this time from Deer Management ltd. The firm‘s director Jim Scobie, himself a cyclist, has already provided similar assistance for Lewis Day, another young Moray rider who has been regularly driven up and down the A9 to the velodrome in Glasgow, by his Dad Kenny. As a tribute to the late Ivor Reid, Jim has been keen to encourage these riders who are both doing many miles to events all over Scotland and further south. Having spent a few years in the Inverness area in the past, Jim well appreciates the hours of travelling to the central belt and beyond, an additional pressure over and above that of the competition itself.

Ava will turn 14 this year. At this tender age she has already amassed an abundance of racing experience in the 13 and 14 year category all over the country. Having recently completed the full series of Scottish Cyclo-Cross events, she is currently taking a winter break from her hectic racing schedule and will resume in March or early April when she will be looking forward to further opportunities to demonstrate her capabilities.

2022 was a superb year for her. One of the highlights was a podium performance with 3rd place in the Knockburn Loch event, part of the Scottish Cyclo-Cross Series, followed a week later by a 5th place in the Scottish Championship. Another big event for Ava last summer was her first British Cycling National Circuit Race Series event on the purpose built closed road circuit at Fife Cycle Park, competing in four races over two days,

Having ridden all the events in the Scottish Cyclo-Cross series she finds an amazing camaraderie of racing where, before the event, she will be found with her fellow female competitors, all in a line, warming up on their rollers, demonstrating the bike handling skills of seasoned track riders.

We will bring you more news of Ava’s plans for the upcoming season nearer the start of racing.
